This week’s newsletter, brought to you by Kastle, dives into the latest advancements in access control. Innovations in biometrics, mobile access, data standards, and more promise to bring new levels of automation and convenience to our buildings and workplaces.

Now let's dig in!

We've all become pretty comfortable with biometrics, whether it's unlocking our phones with our faces or breezing through airport security with an eye scan. Now, it's time to bring that same ease to our workplaces. Imagine allowing employees to walk into the office, wave their hand, and gain instant access—no more hunting for access cards or PINs. It's not just about convenience, it's also a step up in security because unique biometric data can't be easily replicated. But this new technology also carries with it risks and not everyone is on-board with buildings and employers collecting this sensitive biometric data.

Kastle has announced the first interoperable physical access control system that gives building owners the ability to future-proof their access control technology today with the greatest flexibility and interoperability for years to come.

See how we’re striving to create a world where the same open-standard mobile credential gives users seamless access to all the places they live, work, and play.

We do about everything on our phones these days. So it makes sense that most consumers want the convenience of using their phones to unlock doors rather than having to use a key, card, or fob. For many buildings that means ripping out old hardware incompatible with the modern smart phones. Some building mangers are reluctant to upgrade to a new system, weary that technology might change again and require another costly replacement. Now, thanks to a new data standard for smart locks called Aliro, landlords can purchase new hardware with peace of mind, knowing that it will continue to work with cell phones, no matter how much the technology advances.

Modern buildings are getting smarter, adjusting their lighting, heating, and cooling in real-time to match what's happening inside. This leap in efficiency is all thanks to sophisticated software in building management systems. But here's the catch: for this smart adjustment to work smoothly, the access control systems need to chat with the building management. You'd think that would be easy, right? Well, it's not always so simple. Outdated platforms and the jumble of different vendors working on the same building can make it tricky. To truly unlock their smart potential, buildings need access control systems that can easily communicate with building management and each other.

Last year was a big one for tech innovations, and a lot of them are going to have a major impact on the property industry now and in the future. Think AI, occupancy sensors, communication standards – you name it. There's a bunch of these emerging trends that are reshaping the commercial real estate scene. For a deep dive into all these exciting developments, have a look at an article by Haniel Lynn, the CEO of Kastle. They're at the forefront of property technology solutions, so they know what they're talking about.
