Greetings,
The 2026 FIFA World Cup turned 16 stadiums across three countries into a continental-scale intelligent building network. Digital twins tracked crowd movement, private 5G networks supported millions of connected fans, and a centralized command center monitored security and building operations across every venue. The technology inside the World Cup’s stadiums offers a preview of systems that will soon become common in offices, shopping centers, campuses, and other large properties.
Office buildings face a less dramatic but equally important challenge. Hybrid schedules continue to shift, AI is changing how teams collaborate, and spaces designed around predictable attendance patterns are struggling to keep pace. Why hybrid work requires more adaptive buildings explores how sensors, connected platforms, and responsive building systems can help workplaces adjust to how people actually use them.
Both stories point toward the same future. Buildings are moving away from fixed schedules and isolated systems toward environments that continuously sense, learn, and respond. Whether managing 80,000 soccer fans or an office that fills and empties unpredictably throughout the week, the most valuable building technology may be the infrastructure that allows a property to keep changing.

💷 Gaining pounds
Dwelly, a London-based proptech startup, raised $170 million in a Series B led by EQT Growth and General Catalyst, bringing total funding to over $260 million in under a year, to continue acquiring UK leasing agencies and automating their operations with AI. The company's model buys independent agencies, plugs them into a centralized AI platform, and claims to triple property manager productivity to over 300 units each, with 15,000 properties and a £350 million annual rent roll already on the platform.
Housing hack
The District of Columbia Housing Authority suffered a cybersecurity incident that led to a network shutdown lasting several weeks, compromising a limited subset of sensitive data belonging to an agency that serves approximately 30,000 families, before restoring normal operations. The attack is part of a broader pattern of rising cyberattacks on public housing authorities, which hold deep wells of personally identifiable information including income data and W2s but often have limited resources to defend against threats that experts say are driven less by deliberate targeting than by opportunism following proven success in the sector.
